Right.

I watched her waiting. I needed to know why she was single. Nyah was smart, perceptive, mouthy but in a witty kind of way, and she was beautiful. She was also not the type of beautiful that used her looks like an advantage because she didn’t have to. There was so much more to offer than just a pretty face, however it didn’t mean I wasn’t impressed with the visual. And her body was…

Fuck me.

Currently she was dressed in tiny cotton shorts and a matching cropped sweatshirt which exposed far more skin than I needed to have access to. Plush brown thighs, toned but not overly defined with muscles had my full attention. And the way her top was sitting just above her navel and sometimes rising higher pending her movements had created a huge distraction along with a solid mass in my pants.

“I don’t think my dating status should be part of the discussion.”

“I disagree. If anything was off limits, then you should have said so up front.”

“So you get to toss in new rules like taking a shot if I lie, but I don’t get to amend the game by adding topics that are off limits?”

“Nope, my house, my rules. Now are we ending this or are you going to tell me why you’re single?”

“Do I get to ask whatever I want?”

I nodded. “You do, as long as you take the shot. Nothing is off limits.”

I grinned knowing that she assumed I’d be intimidated, but that wasn’t the case. I’d tell her anything she wanted to know and she wanted to know a lot. Hell, I’d give her visuals if she asked. I wasn’t shy about my body especially not my dick. It was quite impressive.

“Fine, my last boyfriend was broken. He had mommy issues which he refused to address and because he wouldn’t be honest about those issues, they filtered over into our relationship.”

“What type of issues?” I asked before I could stop myself. She immediately smiled and pointed to the liquor.

“That’s a question. If you want me to answer, two shots, sir.”

I didn’t hesitate. I had an unusually high tolerance for alcohol, mostly because my first few years in the league I’d partied non-stop. I also slightly believed I had the potential to be a functioning alcoholic which scared me and was the reason I didn’t drink much these days. Being a rookie there had always been the pressure to fit a certain standard, I was older now and didn’t give a damn about perceptions or judgment so there wasn’t a need for me to impress anyone.

After downing both shots with ease, and chuckling at Nyah’s annoyance with my resilience, I pointed to her. “What type of issues?”

“This is not fair,” she muttered. “But I’m a woman of my word. He had abandonment issues which made him overly protective and clingy. He smothered me to the point where I couldn’t breathe and it got out of hand.”

“Was he abusive?”

“No, quite the opposite. He loved me hard,
